Following on the footsteps of John Edward, CFI Vancouver has learned that James Van Praagh, a self proclaimed medium is visiting Richmond on September 25th at 8pm.
The event listing for his visit can be seen here.
Like Edward, Van Praagh is a medium and cold reader who applies his trade to desperate people who are grieving over their lost loved ones. He gives them false hope and violates the memories of the deceased people by making up stories about them. For an understanding of who Van Praagh is and what he does, see here.
CFI Vancouver believes it is within our mandate to stand up to this kind of hustling of the vulnerable. Previously we handed out flyers encouraging people to “Think Critically” about Deepak Chopra when he spoke in Vancouver and with John Edward when he was here. Now we plan to do the same with James Van Praagh
This event will take place before and during Van Praaghs event. We should meet early, around 6pm to make some last minute plans, and then set up outside the location for his talk. We’ll hand out flyers based on Ray Hyman’s Guide to Cold Reading. See it here.
This guide has been successfully used by other skeptic groups when psychics and mediums come to their city. Notably, the Ottawa Skeptics when Sylvia Brown came and recently the new branch of CFI Okanagan when Brown was in Kelowna.
Let’s meet at the Bridgeport bus loop, just underneath the Bridgeport skytrain around 5:45pm. We can head over to Casino from there.
Please be respectful, smile, and be an ambassador for the Centre for Inquiry and skepticism as a whole.
The facebook event page can be seen here.
PS – Isn’t the cold-reader bingo card amazing?! It will be included on the flier we will be handing out for the enjoyment of the audience.
I wish that I could get in and play! A wonderful version of “cold reader bingo” that can be randomized/ printed can be found here. Do I sense a bingo night in our future?
