Is it wrong to eat meat? Perhaps it is only a matter of preference whether we choose to eat other animals. In an effort to evaluate the moral and scientific questions about vegetarianism the Centre for Inquiry will host a lively debate on the whether or not it’s better to be vegetarian between Dr. Rob Tarzwell and Co-host of Radio Freethinker, Don McLenaghen.
Don McLenaghen is a co-host on the popular Vancouver podcast/radio show“Radio Freethinker.” A recent graduate of UBC with a joint degree in Philosophy and Political Science adding to his previous accreditation from Langara College and a diploma in Computer Information Services from the College of New Caladonia as a Honour Roll student. Presently Don is searching for a home to pursue graduate studies in Philosophy.
Rob Tarzwell is a medical doctor and Clinical Instructor in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He has been a vegetarian for 4 years, on what he feels is the strength of the evidence. Rob has debated on CFI’s behalf before in the “Putting God to the Test” debates and has spoken for the UBC Freethinkers, Cafe Scientifique and appeared on several skeptical podcasts including Radio Freethinker.
The debate will focus on issues of ethics, science, and environment as two talented debaters butt heads on this important issue.
Are vegetarians are more ethical than omnivores?
Is a vegetarian diet healthier to an omnivores diet?
Would eliminating meat from our diets could save the planet?
These answers, and more, await!
$5 General Admission, $4 for Students and FREE for CFI Members!
